Digital Transformation in Indian Education

A A

Indian classrooms are going through a silent revolution. Electronic screens are replacing chalkboards, and textbooks are being combined with engaging online materials.

But, still almost 60% of students do not have access to online learning opportunities. With that figure in mind, a question becomes relevant: is the impact of technology in education reaching the grassroots level for every student? And how is it changing the future of the Indian education system? Let’s check it out.

What is Digital Transformation in Education?

Digital transformation means the use of technology in education to make the learning experience more interactive.

In India, this change is occurring at several levels. Learning platforms are personalising the lessons with Artificial Intelligence (AI). Cloud-based tools provide study materials at any time. In fact, even many CBSE Syllabus schools are making use of the opportunities behind e-learning in education to give students global exposure.

Why is Digital Transformation Important in Indian Education?

Quality education is still out of reach for a large number of students in India. Check out the importance of educational technology in filling this gap:

  • 65% of India’s population lives in rural areas, where opportunities for quality education are limited. Online classes enable students in villages to access the best global teachers.
  • Online educational videos with advanced AR/VR technologies can make learning more engaging.
  • AI in education adapts lessons according to a student’s pace.
  • The cost of traditional education and school transportation concerns many low-income families. E-learning in education can address both these issues by letting students access classes from anywhere at a cheaper cost.

Government Initiatives Supporting Digital Education in India

  1. National Digital Education Architecture (NDEAR): NDEAR is a shared digital infrastructure for schools in India. It is intended to facilitate interaction between various ed-tech systems. That makes it easy for teachers to share more quality digital resources with students.
  2. DIKSHA Platform: DIKSHA (Digital Infrastructure for Knowledge Sharing) is a web-based and free platform for interactive study content. Many kindergarten schools in Ahmedabad make use of this platform effectively.
  3. SWAYAM: SWAYAM (Study Webs of Active Learning for Young Aspiring Minds) offers free courses from elite Indian universities. It offers students the chance to gain certification that is accepted by many reputed universities and employers.

Challenges in Digital Transformation of Education in India

  • Only 24% of Indian households have an active internet connection.
  • Most teachers and students, especially in rural schools, do not have the required skills to utilise technology in education effectively.
  • Smart classrooms are costly for many schools.
  • Too much online learning can increase the screen time of children, which in turn, leads to many health issues.

How To Overcome These Challenges?

An educational plan that combines both online and offline education is perhaps the best approach. In fact, many international high schools in India now encourage the usage of WhatsApp for assignment submission and YouTube for additional learning resources. This must be expanded to more affordable offline applications like Google’s Read-Along.

At the same time, teachers’ involvement is very crucial. Schools must try to give specialised training to them on how to use online learning platforms effectively.

Future of Digital Education In India

Still, Indian digital education is set to rise. IBEFsuggests that the Indian edtech industry is expected to hit $10 billion by the end of 2025. We can expect to see more virtual learning environments with advanced VR and AR technologies in the classroom. More cloud-based collaborative platforms will be introduced to link students around the world.

Conclusion

Fast-paced adjustment is required to cope with this digital revolution. At Global Indian International School, we welcome this change by adopting the most recent educational technologies. This makes sure that all our students are prepared for the tech-driven world. Explore our innovative learning approach!
